2013 WV Wellness Fair
The 2013 WV Wellness Fair is designed to promote healthy living among the community of Muskegon, as well as provide them the knowledge base to successfully navigate through legal matters that are most relevant to them.
The Wellness Fair is brought to you by The WV Foundation, a non-profit organization of the state of Michigan, founded by Muskegon natives Terrence Williams and Nick VandenBosch.
Why? When compared to state averages, Muskegon County citizens have a higher rate of obesity, diabetes, and overall activity limitation due to poor health. Despite this, more Muskegon citizens (nearly 1/5) report that they have absolutely no health care coverage. * If we are serious about improving health care in our country, it starts by reaching out at the community level to those in need.
Medical Wellness: By attending the FREE WV Wellness Fair, individuals can be evaluated for obesity, hypertension (high blood pressure), diabetes, and elevated cholesterol. They will then be linked with local health departments or clinics where they can receive follow-up care regarding these issues. In the end, individuals will lower their risk of heart disease and stroke (among other ailments) and improve their overall quality of life.
By partnering with Michigan State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine, future doctors who have a special interest in Community Integrated Medicine can make a difference in Muskegon. Under the supervision of physicians, they will be directly involved with the health screenings mentioned above.
Legal Wellness: The WV Foundation recognizes that there is more to quality of life than just healthy living. Many individuals have legal matters that add to the struggle of their daily life, and they often do not have the resources to address these needs. Therefore, the WV Wellness Fair will include a legal panel where questions regarding the following legal areas can be answered FREE of charge: Family Law, Business Law, Criminal Law, Civil Law (i.e. Property).
